Mentors
Our mentors offer both in-person and remote support for students. We aim to create a safe environment where students can discuss their concerns without judgment, helping them improve their academic journey. This support is covered by student loans and won't impact your finances.
Students are matched with qualified counsellors or Autism specialist, all with a Master's degree or higher. Mentors provide interventions to help students manage their mental health and well-being in relation to their studies, promoting independent learning and self-management.
We're here for you throughout your university journey, providing a welcoming community, compassionate care, and motivational support.
Unhappy with your current provider? Slipped through the cracks? Mentor inattentive and not meeting your need? Same old conversations with no real progress?
Move to ACT Student Support, for support that truly makes a difference. Making the most of your funding with the best support around.

Our core belief is that nobody should be excluded from society because of their mental health, learning differences, identity, disability, gender, sexuality, beliefs, and that differences should be celebrated, taught and not be a barrier to education.
At ACT we will support you through mentoring if you have mental health needs, physical difficulties and learning difference.
The foundation of our philosophy is the belief in the ‘core conditions’: empathy, congruence (honesty/integrity) and unconditional positive regard (acceptance) and every student’s sessions with a mentor will begin from those solid foundations.
At ACT, we understand mental health as existing on a continuum rather than a binary ‘mentally healthy vs. mentally ill’. Historically, mental health has been understood through a medical lens and whilst we understand the importance of this in regard to diagnosis and treatment, at ACT we also contextualise mental health into the wider societal framework. This means that we understand that if you come from a marginalised group e.g., if you are LGBTQ+, BIPOC, have a learning difference, disabled or a woman, there are existing systemic barriers and prejudices in our society, therefore we understand that feelings of anxiety and depression are a response to feeling excluded.
Therefore, we see mental health not as an inclusion/exclusion criteria but as points along a continuum between the OK and ill. Philosophers who consider themselves a part of the neurodiversity movement claim that our concept of mental illness should be revised to reflect the diverse forms of cognition that humans are capable of without stigmatising individuals that are statistically ‘non-normal’.
In our first session, we will work together to identify what it is that you need during your time at university. We believe that no matter how many hours we spend with students who have Autism, or in training sessions full of professionals teaching us 'about Autism' at the end of the day the most significant expert on your 'type' of Autism is you!
That is why we will offer you a safe space to be heard, valued, and accepted so you can improve your well-being with our help. We believe in the power of empathy, acceptance and trustworthiness and the positive impact this can have in someone’s life.
Not all of disabled students will have formal diagnoses and some might not even realise they are on the autistic spectrum. We find that some of our student ‘have a feeling’ or they find that once they have been given the label of ‘autistic’ that it “explains a lot”.
We are used to the formal and emotional process that students take to get a diagnosis of Autism. We have supported many of our students, some who may not yet have a diagnosis and others who are just starting the process, we have insight and knowledge on the best paths students might take and we can also aid you emotionally on your journey.

If you like others find you are trying to Navigate higher education whilst distracted by shiny things, you are not alone!
ADHD starts in childhood and progresses into adulthood, according to research around 60% of children who develop ADHD do not 'outgrow' or correct it. It has become apparent that many people have not been diagnosed properly with ADHD during childhood; meaning that we receive a high percentage of mature students at university who are newly diagnosed.
We can help you work through your diagnoses and start to interoperate ADHD into your life and find 'you' again. Some of the thing we can work on with you;
We will tailor your support to meet your individual learning and academic needs. Each person unique with their own set of challenges and strengths.
Who we are and why
save your place with us?
Our workforce is currently 100% disabled and we want to stay that way. We also aim to give disabled people the highest of opportunities. We do not just believe in equality, we are actively doing it!
We are based in South Wales but offer support across the UK. We support and champion other small businesses whilst being a small business ourselves. We like to make contacts and connections with other support services across the UK and Wales. Each person we meet leaves a lasting impression on us, and we, in turn, strive to positively impact them.
We are specialist in Mental Health, ADHD and Autism with many of our mentors having over ten years’ experience each. Also, all our mentors are educated to a Master (level 7) and even our Autism Mentors are Counsellors and MBACP. Other services do not ask their ASC Mentors to be a qualified counsellor but we believe these skills are essential; with many Mentors having experience of Counselling individuals on the Autistic Spectrum. If you are currently completely you PhD and you would like your mentor to have had this experience you can request that they have already accomplished this qualification.
We understand that if you come from a marginalised group e.g., if you are LGBTQ+, BIPOC, disabled or a woman, there are existing systemic barriers and prejudices in our society. By helping disabled students, we hope to smash these barriers down. We love talking about LGBTQI issues & challenges; we are used to exploring all parts of gender, sexuality, relationships and transitioning.
